これまで様々な援農ボランティアをしてきました。そのつながりがあって「アスパラガスを育ててみないですか？」とお声がかかりました。アスパラガスは大好きな野菜の1つですが、スーパーでは高くてあまり手が届かない野菜でしたので、自分で育てて思いっきり食べられたら何て嬉しいんだろう！と思い、今回まったく初めてでしたが参加させていただきました。Youtube動画100本程見て、アスパラガスの作り方を勉強するところから始めました。
声をかけてくださった方は、農業関連の会社にお勤めの方で、農作物生産のプロ。ご自宅でもプライベートでアスパラを作っていて成功しているとのこと。アスパラの苗の余りを植えようとしている畑は、長い間、畑として使われていなかった場所で、土の表面に雑草が生えているだけでなく、地面の下にも広範囲にしつこい雑草の根っこが元気に育っている状態。私のタスクは、地下の根っこを掘り出して除去する作業から開始しました。表面は機械で草を刈り終わったところで、私の出番はクマデのような道具で表面のゴミをかくこと。今のところ2回のクマデ作業をしましたが、全然ダメですね。次回はサンカクホーという道具で地面を掘り起こしながら根っこの除去をやってみます。I have been volunteering at several farms, and one of them asked me if I was interested in growing asparagus.I love asparagus, but they are expensive, and I don’t buy them at all.I wondered if I could eat them as much as I wanted.I was happy to participate in the project.I started by watching a hundred Youtube videos and learning how to grow asparagus.
The person who invited me to the project is a professional in farming. He has successful experiences in growing asparagus at his private vegetable field also. He had some remaining asparagus seedlings and wanted to grow them in a different place. The area has been left for a long time, and weeds were everywhere. My first task began with removing them.They were cut by a weed cutter first. Then it was my turn to remove the surface weeds using a rake. I have done it twice, but not enough at all. I will use a triangle-shaped hoe next time and dig up roots underneath.
