とうもろこしは繊細だということを学んだ援農でした。今回のタスクは苗の植付けでした。素人には、とっても難しい作業でした。今回扱った品種は苗の葉っぱが長く成長しているので、せっかく植えても風の影響を受けやすいということでした。本来であれば、成長した時に、しっかり受粉できた個体は黄色の粒がぎゅっと詰まっているところが、風の影響を受けて茎が倒れ、受粉が十分できなかった個体は、とうもろこし上部に白い部分が多くなってしまうということも学びました。そんなわけで他の品種よりも若干深い位置に植える必要があり、でも深く植えすぎると、成長しづらくなってしまい、経験と感覚が必要な作業です。きちんとできたつもりでも、反対側から見ると、微妙にNGで、やり直したり。勉強になります。
I learned that corns are delicate than I ever thought. My task on this day was to plant corn seedlings on the field. It was difficult for inexperienced like me. This kind of corn leaves grew longer than the other corns. To prevent the leaves bend or fall from strong winds, they have to be planted a bit deeper into the field, but not too deep as they won’t grow well enough. In the beginning, I thought I was planting the seedlings ok, but when I saw them from the back, I was not planting well. So, I started from all over again. As I continue, I did better. It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot. I also learned that they need enough pollination. Otherwise, it results in tinier corns with fewer kernels.
