私が以前住んでいた地域には外国人の住人が多く、自治体として様々なサポートがあったと思います。そしてボランティアに登録している方に、活躍の場を与えるべく、多くの仕事の機会をよく与え、募集をかけていたと思います。その中のひとつで、外国人向けの電話相談というものがありました。英語対応に始まり、あとから別の言葉による相談窓口もできたようです。ボランティアが電話で聞き取り、その場でボランティアが答えられるものはその場で回答し、必要に応じて自治体の担当者が解決方法を見出すなどの流れだったと思います。ボランティア自身が地域のこと詳しく知るきっかけにもなりますし、日本語がわからないために困っている方の助けができる、やりがいのある仕事だと思います。平日の昼間のボランティアだったので私は応募できなかったのですが、興味のある方にとっては、よい経験になる仕事だと思います。
There were many international residents in the city where I used to live. I remembered there were many supports for them. And there were many opportunities for volunteers which the city had offered. I often saw volunteer wanted ads. One of them was helpline volunteers. It started with an English helpline. In later stages, other language helplines began. Volunteers listened to their needs and answered them over the phone. Some other issues were taken care of by city office staff.It was good for the volunteers to get to know more about the local area, and it was a fulfilling role to help people having trouble with the Japanese language. Working hours were during the daytime. I did not apply for it, but I would like to recommend this role to someone interested. I am sure it will become a great experience.
