私が所属した東北復興応援のボランティアグループで、とても重要な存在はドライバーでした。私たちはそれぞれの本職での仕事を終えて、金曜日の夜に都内の所定の場所に集合し、そこから翌朝までの間に、ボランティアを現地まで安全に送り届ける仕事がドライバーの役割でした。夜間の移動となるため、安全のため、3名で交代しながら大型のバスを運転してくださいました。この大型のバスもボランティアさんが所有するものを提供してくださっていて本当にありがたいことでした。そして早朝到着後は、ガテンの人を所定の場所におろしたり、マッサージとお茶の人をいくつかの仮設をまわっておろし、また時間になると、引き上げるために人を回収し、また次の移動場所へ送り届け、そのような重要な役割でした。一時期ドライバーの追加募集があり、私自身も応募したことがありますが、結局のところドライバーが十分足りていたため、私が出動する必要はなく、傾聴のボランティアに集中することができました。
One of the essential roles in the Tohoku recovery support volunteer organization where I belonged was drivers. Their role was to pick volunteers on Friday night and take them safely to the disaster area. Since we traveled during the night, three drivers worked in turns for a safe drive.The majority of us had full-time occupations for living. Some were working part-time, and some were homemakers. One of the drivers offered his bus for volunteering. So the bus was provided for us to use. As we arrived the next day, a physical labor group of people got off at a certain point. Massage and tea people were split into 3-4 groups to work in different villages. After we finished on the day, drivers again picked us. So, it was such an important role. One time, the organization was looking for additional drivers. By the time I applied, there were enough drivers. So, I didn’t have to drive at all and could concentrate on an attentive hearing role.
