久しぶりのスポーツイベントのボランティアに参加してきました。ハンザというヨットで速さを競い合う大会でした。ハンザというヨットは他のヨットと違い、子供でも年配の方でも障がいのある方でも簡単に乗ることができると言われているヨットです。今回の競技では車椅子を使用している方などが多く、ヨットに乗るまでのサポートや、乗る前のヨットの準備、乗った後の片付け作業などが今回のボランティア作業でした。まったくヨットに乗ったことのないボランティアや、障がい者の方達をどのようにサポートしたらいいか、ほとんど知識のないボランティアも多く、できないことはたくさんありましたが、皆それぞれ、自分のできることを探しながらサポートできました。ボランティア同士の情報交換や、障がい者、健常者に関わらずヨット経験者からの話を聞いたりなど学ぶことが多く楽しく過ごせました。
It’s been a long time since I’ve volunteered at a sports event. It was the Hansa sailing championship. Compared to ordinary sailboats, Hansa can be easily operated by children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. At this event, most sailors were people with wheelchairs. We helped with rigging and supported them getting on boats etc. Many of us did not have experience in sailing. Moreover, we were not sure how to help people with disabilities, but we tried to act proactive and helped as much as we could. We also enjoyed exchanging information among volunteers and learning new things about sailing from experienced sailors.
