大和芋農家で種イモを準備する作業をしてきました。畑に植えるための重要な作業の1つです。どのくらいの大きさに揃えてカットしたらいいのかを最初に教わりました。それから色がおかしなものは病気だったり。最初は何度も教わりながら、確認しながら作業していきました。カットした種イモには、石灰をふりかけました。慣れてくると、てきぱきと手を動かすことができ、作業はどんどん進みました。農家さんや他のボランティアさんたちとおしゃべりをしながらの作業は、とても楽しかったです。
I helped prepare seed yams at a Japanese yam farm. It was one of the most important farm work. I first learned the suitable size for planting in the farm field. While I was cutting yams in good sizes, I found some yams with plant disease, which I had to dispose. I had to ask the owner many times in the beginning if I was doing ok. Cut seed yams were treated with lime powder. As I got used to it, I could cut them quickly and smoothly. I really enjoyed the work and chatting with the owner as well as other volunteers.
