今回は休日の午後を利用して、初めてのいちご農園にボランティアに行きました。家から近い場所にある農園を見つけたのでラッキーでした。こちらの農園では、日頃から学生さんたちが学校の単位取得目的でボランティアに来たり、多くのお手伝いさんの受け入れを歓迎している農園でした。万一のコロナ感染時の追跡のため、身分証明証のコピーの控えが必要でした。
今回の私の任務は、床に落ちたいちごの花びらの掃き掃除でした。いくつかのビニールハウスがありましたが、そのうちの1棟を担当しました。1棟あたりの広さがテニスコートくらいの広さでした。お寺の修行僧のように黙々と掃き掃除をしました。だいたい午後の半日で2/3くらい終わりました。掃除をした後の床は、とてもきれいになって、すがすがしかったです。I spent my spare time volunteering on a strawberry farm on a weekend afternoon. I was lucky I had found a place close to my home. They welcome many volunteers any time, including students who volunteer for academic credits earning purposes. In the beginning, I had to submit a copy of identification just in case of corona infection tracking.
My task for the day was to sweep white petals of strawberries fallen on the floor. There were several plastic greenhouses there, and each was about the size of a tennis court. The owner of the farm asked me to sweep one of them. It took me a half-day to finish 2/3 of it. I had put all of my concentration only to sweep the floor clean. It became so clean. I felt so refreshed!
