今までチャレンジしたボランティア通訳で一番エキサイティングだったのは、車椅子バスケットボールのジャッジと選手の間に入る通訳です。バスケットボールのルールも知らない、通訳の技術のない私がこんなポジションでいいのか？と思いました。とてもドキドキ、緊張しました。この仕事は、コートにいるジャッジが選手に何らかの指示を与えて問題があったときに、間に入って通訳するというコミュニケーションサポートの仕事でした。そんなわけで、私はコートのすぐ目の前に待機する必要があり、目の前で車椅子がガシャガシャとぶつかり合う、衝撃的なシーンを見ることができました。とてもエキサイティングな経験ができました。結局のところ私が通訳を担当していた時も、別のボランティアが通訳を担当していた時もジャッジと選手の間に入って通訳する必要はなく無事に終了しました。
One of the most exciting volunteer roles was as an interpreter for judges and players of wheelchair basketball games. My role was to support communication between the judges and the players when communication issues occurred during games.I was so nervous, worried, and not confident enough for that role, but I tried to give it a go. Anyway, I had to sit and stay just in front of the game court. It was so exciting to watch where wheelchair players were bumping each other so hard. The games finished with no communication problems between the judges and the players while I was and other volunteers were in charge of interpreter roles.
